The Story | |
It was three years ago when the Dark Prince, Loki, made an attempt to destroy the beautiful , peaceful kingdom of Lexet. It was Sir Arthur who courageously fought Loki and saved the people of Lexet from Loki's nasty grasp. But the wicked and evasive Dark Prince has once again pillaged Lexet and plagued the people with paralyzing fear. And this time he took the breathtaking beauty, Princess Tamara! You as Sir Arthur must avenge your village and rescue Princess Tamara. It's not going to be easy. Snorting pigmen, scythe-wielding skeletons and haunted guillotines with an appetite for human flesh are some of the countless loathsome creatures that you will encounter. That's not all. In order to reach Loki's castle you must obtain the keys to the locked gates. But first you must confront the Gatekeepers who will do anything to keep you away from the keys. Sounds tough? Someone has to do it. You can - if you have the right weapons, plenty of luck and lots of guts! (Taken from manual) |

The Basics | |
First off, the controls. Pressing left or right will move Arthur in those directions. Pressing up will climb ladders. Pressing down can be used to crouch and descend ladders. Pressing Button 1 will fire your weapon, while holding it for a short period of time and then releasing will use your magic. Pressing Button 2 will make Arthur jump. There are also some other advanced techniques I'd recommend using to make life easier for you. • Holding up and pressing button 1 will fire you weapon upwards, which comes in handy for defeating flying enemies and many of the bosses. • Holding down and pressing button 1 will fire your weapon as you are crouching. This can be handy when you need to attack an enemy which is lower down than usual. • Holding down and pressing button 1 while jumping will fire your weapon downwards. This is essential for defeating the level 4 boss. |

Treasure Chests | |
The key to this game is opening treasure chests, as this will give you the opportunity to recover your health/magic and most importantly, upgrade your gear. Breaking open a chest usually reveals a magican, whose magic can turn you into a duck or an old man, which leaves you very vulnerable to enemy attack. For every few chests you reveal however, a secret gate will appear. It is here you will find either the chance to upgrade weapons or recover your health/magic. Listed below are the locations of all the treasure chests in the game. They are usually hidden and will unveil themselves if jump/walk in certain spots. |

Armour | |
When you start the game, you will be equipped with silver amour. This allows you to take damage for 2 hits. Once you are down to your last hit, you will lose your armour and end up in just your underwear. When you are in this state without armour, you wil be unable to use magic. As you reveal chests and secret gateways, you will be able to upgrade your armour. Listed below are the available upgrades and what they do. |
Red Armour Allows you to take 3 hits |
Green Armour Allows you to take 4 hits |
Gold Armour Allows you to take 5 hits |
|||||
Helmets | |||||||
When you start the game, you will be equipped with the silver helmet. As you reveal chests and secret gateways, you will be able to upgrade your helmet. Listed below are the available upgrades and what they do. |
|||||||
Red Helmet Gives you 'Shield' magic |
Green Helmet Gives you 'Double' magic |
Gold Helmet Gives you 'Bomb' magic |
|||||
Shoes | |||||||
When you start the game, you are equipped with silver shoes. Even when you lose your armour, you will still attain the abilities of the shoes you have. As you reveal chests and secret gateways, you will be able to upgrade your shoes. Listed below are the available upgrades and what they do. |
|||||||
Red Shoes Makes you run faster and jump further |
Green Shoes Makes you run even faster and jump further |
Gold Shoes Makes you run fastest and jump furthest |
|||||
The Gold Shoes are very useful in Level 2-1. When you come to the platform section, you can simply run across the platforms without falling down the holes that appear. It's also important to note that you need to try maintain balanced armour and shoes, as it will make Arthur easier to control. For instance, if you are wearing Gold Shoes with Silver Armour, you will find the control very sluggish.
Weapons | |||||||
When you start the game, you are equipped with the Javelin. As you reveal chests and secret gateways, you will be able to upgrade your weapon. Listed below are the available upgrades and what they do. |
|||||||
Javelin Flies straight. Can throw 2 at a time |
Dagger Can throw 3 at a time and has fast fire rate |
Axe Powerful. Goes through enemies. Slow fire rate |
|||||
Discus Can skim ground. Average fire rate. |
Fireball Good power. Excellent range and fire rate |
Psycho Cannon Most powerful weapon. Also gives 'Life' magic |
|||||
The Axe also flies at an upwards angle so take this into account. If you crouch while firing the discus it will skim across the floor. This is very useful on the slopes in level 4-2. The Pscyho Cannon can only be acquired once you've played the game through once.
Magic | |||||||
Using magic is essential. During play, you will see a magic gauge on the left-hand side of the screen. This shows you how much magic units you have left to use. The various magic powers use different amounts of magic units. Magic units can be restored in secret gateways and also by upgrading your helmet. When you start the game, you have the 'Fire' and 'Thunder' magic. As you upgrade your helmet, you will gain new magic abilities. Listed below are the available magic abilities and what they do. |
|||||||
Fire (1pt) 4 balls of fire move in diagonal direction |
Thunder (1pt) 3 bolts of thunder fire left, right and upwards |
Shield (2pts) Makes you invincible to enemies |
|||||
Double (4pts) Creates clone and gives double firepower |
Bomb (6pts) Destroy all enemies on screen |
Life (8pts) Restores your life to max capacity |
|||||
The most important advice I can give to be successful, is use Shield magic often. The ability to be temporarily invincible makes getting through the levels and defeating the bosses so much easier. It also only uses 2 magic points on your gauge, giving you plenty of opportunities to use it. Note that you are still vulnerable to damage from the landscape, such as spikes and goblin statues that eat you. The Double magic is fairly useless as it justs slows the game down beyond playability. The bomb can be useful when there are a large amount of enemies on screen, like in level 3-1. You shouldn't need to use the Life magic if you are using the Shield magic often.
General Tips | |||||||
• Like I just mentioned, the best way to be successful is to use Shield magic and use it often. It makes things like the ladder section in level 5-2 and even defeating the last boss a total breeze. • The first upgrade I'd suggest to make is the Red Shoes. This makes jumping sections in level 2 a lot more managable. Secondly, I'd go for the Armour upgrade, as having that extra bit of health will save many lives. Next, upgrade your helmet so you have Shield magic. As this is the only magic you'll need, it's best to continue upgrading your armour, shoes and weapons rather than the helmet. • Once you've opened a treasure chest, it will not reappear again unless you die. So believe it or not, intentionally dying can be used as a tactic. For instance, if you find all the chests in a level and die before you complete it, you can open all the chests again - giving you more opportunities to upgrade. • You don't even have to break open all the chests to open the secret gateways. As long as you reveal the chest it will count. For instance, in level 1, if you reveal the first 3 chests without breaking them open, the fourth one will still be a gateway. Though this is a good way to avoid magicians but you do run the risk of missing secret gateways using this method. • If you do reveal a magician, the best thing to do is run. If thats not possible however, stay close and fire at him rapidly. Hopefully you should destroy him before he gets a chance to unleash his magic. • Just to note, that when you are turned into a duck all you can do is jump, making you completely defenseless. When your turned in to the old man however, you still have the ability to climb ladders and fire your weapon, albeit very slowly and with poor range. |

At the title screen press left, right, right, left, right, right, left, right, right, right, left, right, left. This will take you to an options menu where you can select your level, chose your armour and weapons and choose your number of lives and invincibility. |
